Schwierige Phase, in der wir uns befinden. 4 Tage ohne Gewitter - eigentlich Zeit für ein touristisches Programm. Aber jeder hat seine eigenen Vorstellungen davon, wie das aussieht. Wir fahren nach Norden, ursprünglich wollten wir nach Roswell, New Mexico. Da wir aber in der Nacht noch Astrofotografie machen wollen, haben wir den Plan verworfen, zu viele Wolken machen uns einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Zwar wird es im Norden von Texas bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit auch Wolken geben, aber die werden sich verziehen. Unser Ziel ist Amarillo TX mit seinem berühmten Steakhouse.
Difficult phase we find ourselves in. 4 days without thunderstorms - actually time for a tourist program. But everyone has their own ideas about what that looks like. We drive north, originally we wanted to go to Roswell, New Mexico. However, as we wanted to do some astrophotography at night, we abandoned the plan - too many clouds put a spanner in the works. There will be clouds in the north of Texas at nightfall, but they will disappear. Our destination is Amarillo TX with its famous steakhouse.

Sehr schöne Gegend hier oben links ist der Salt Fork Brazos River. 5 Meilen vor Floydada machten wir eine Stunde Pause und lernten einen netten Mann kennen, der für alles eine Lösung hat!
Very nice area up here on the left is the Salt Fork Brazos River. 5 miles before Floydada we stopped for an hour and met a nice man who has a solution for everything!

Am Abend besuchten wir die Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, ein legendäres Steakhaus, das für sein riesiges 72-Unzen-Steak, bekannt als "The Big Texan", berühmt ist. Das Restaurant bietet ein authentisches Western-Ambiente und ist eine beliebte Touristenattraktion in der Region.
Ein 72-Unzen-Steak entspricht etwa 2,04 Kilogramm Fleisch. Das ist eine beachtliche Menge und selbst für den hungrigsten Esser eine echte Herausforderung. Wer es schafft, das Steak in einer bestimmten Zeit zu essen, bekommt sein Essen umsonst oder andere Preise, je nach den Regeln des Restaurants.
Während des 72-Unzen-Steak-Wettbewerbs können die Teilnehmer versuchen, die enorme Menge an Fleisch zu bewältigen, was eine beeindruckende Leistung ist. Kein Essen für schwache Nerven oder schwache Mägen!
Alles in allem ist die Big Texan Steak Ranch eine Institution in Amarillo, die für ihr herzhaftes Essen, ihre freundliche Atmosphäre und ihre herausfordernden Kochwettbewerbe bekannt ist.
Wir selbst begnügten uns mit einem 900 Gramm schweren Stück Fleisch.
In the evening, we visited the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, a legendary steakhouse famous for its huge 72-ounce steak known as "The Big Texan". The restaurant offers an authentic Western ambience and is a popular tourist attraction in the region.
