Der Titel des Tages sagt aus, was wir von diesem Tag erwarten oder erhoffen. Heute gibt es eine schöne Gewitterlage. Im Vorfeld einer Front erwärmt sich die Luftmasse stark und es kommt am späten Nachmittag oder Abend zur Auslösung. Großer Hagel und schwere Sturmböen sind zu erwarten. Wir bewegen uns gemächlich ostwärts ins Zielgebiet. Dort ist Geduld gefragt.
The title of the day says what we expect or hope from this day. There is a nice thunderstorm situation today. In the run-up to a front, the air mass will warm up strongly and trigger in the late afternoon or evening. Large hail and heavy squalls are to be expected. We will move leisurely eastwards towards the target area. Patience is required there.

Wir haben in Lubbock ein sehr gutes Restaurant gefunden mit freiem WLAN-Zugang. Wir essen etwas Kleines und verfolgen das Satellitenbild. Schön sieht man, wie die Kaltfront hereinrauscht. Wenn alles gut geht, haben wir nach dem Essen und dem Dessert die ersten Signale... Abwarten ist angesagt - aber da der Laden wirklich gut ist, ist das kein Problem!
We have found a very good restaurant in Lubbock with free WLAN access. We eat something small and watch the satellite image. It's nice to see the cold front rushing in. If all goes well, we'll have the first signals after dinner and dessert... We have to wait and see - but as the place is really good, that's no problem!

Wir haben gesund zu Mittag gegessen und warten ab, was kommt. An dieser Stelle noch ein Werbeblock: Wir befinden uns im Buffalo Wild Wings. Es gibt gute Musik und freundliches Personal hier. Unser Blick ist jedoch ständig auf das Satellitenbild gerichtet. Westlich von uns zeigt sich die Dryline. Bald - vielleicht schon in der nächsten Stunde - könnte es losgehen.
We've had a healthy lunch and are waiting to see what happens. At this point, a commercial break: we are at the Buffalo Wild Wings. There is good music and friendly staff here. However, we are
constantly looking at the satellite image. The Dryline is to the west of us. Soon - perhaps in the next hour - we could be on our way.

Es hat ausgelöst. Die Kaltfront befindet sich bereits deutlich südlicher als geplant. Wir bewegen uns Richtung Süden in Richtung Tahoka.

Kurzer Fotostopp, um die Zelle bei Tahoka zu fotografieren. Nun setzen wir unsere Fahrt Richtung Lamesa fort. Die erste Gewitterzelle hat sich etwas versucht zu entwickeln, ist jedoch bereits praktisch abgeklungen. Früher habe ich solche Zellen als 'Winkelriedzellen' bezeichnet... Wenn wir südlich genug sind, könnten wir es mit einem Zeitraffer versuchen.
Short photo stop to take a picture of the cell at Tahoka. Now we continue our journey towards Lamesa. The first thunderstorm cell has tried to develop a bit, but has practically died down already. I used to call such cells 'Winkelried cells'... If we are south enough, we could try a time-lapse.

Die Zelle bei Lamesa war schön anzusehen - einzelne Blitze zuckten hinunter. Doch wir sind zu weit südlich. Der Deckel wird hier nicht durchbrochen. Alle Zellen steigen bis zu einer bestimmten Höhe auf, kommen jedoch nicht weiter voran. Wir steuern die nächste Gewitterzelle an, die wir auf dem Bild erkennen können. Unser neues Ziel ist Jayton.
The cell near Lamesa was beautiful to look at - individual flashes of lightning flashed down. But we are too far south. The lid is not broken here. All the cells rise to a certain height, but don't make any further progress. We head for the next thunderstorm cell that we can see in the picture. Our new destination is Jayton.

Wir sind nah an der Zelle dran. Sie hat eine hohe Basis und sieht nicht mehr gesund aus. Das VIL ist zusammengebrochen.
We are close to the cell. It has a high base and no longer looks healthy. The VIL has collapsed.

Tote Zellen leben länger. Irgendwie hält diese Zelle immer noch durch... Wir konnten schöne Bilder in der Nähe von Clairemont einfangen. Sachas Blitzfoto gehört definitiv zur Kategorie 'sehr schön', und auch die Drohne hat sich sehr bewährt. Es ist erstaunlich, wie sehr einige Höhenmeter den Unterschied machen können!
Wir möchten wieder von Süden her an die Zelle heranfahren und gehen über Snyder ostwärts. Hinter der einen Zelle hat sich eine andere, nicht so starke, entwickelt. Schauen wir, wie weit uns das nach Osten führt. Wir müssen einfach die attraktive Zelle von morgen im Auge behalten, die sich im Südwesten entwickeln wird.
Dead cells live longer. Somehow this cell is still going strong... We were able to capture some beautiful images near Clairemont. Sacha's lightning photo is definitely in the 'very nice' category, and the drone really came into its own too. It's amazing how much difference a few meters of altitude can make!
We want to approach the cell from the south again and head eastwards via Snyder. Behind one cell, another, not as strong, has developed. Let's see how far east that takes us. We'll just have to keep an eye on tomorrow's attractive cell that will develop to the southwest.

Chaotische Zustände... Vorne ziehen die Gewitter nach Norden, in der Mitte (unsere starke Zelle) nach Südsüdost und hinten nach Ostsüdost... Bald sind wir wieder in Reichweite für Aufnahmen...
Chaotic conditions... In the front the thunderstorms are moving north, in the middle (our strong cell) south-southeast and in the back east-southeast... Soon we'll be back in range for shots...

Bei Sweetwater fand eine weitere Aufnahmesession statt. In der Zwischenzeit bildete sich eine Shelfcloud (was das ist, seht ihr auf den folgenden Bildern). Als die Böen ankamen, hatte ich ein wenig Angst um meine Drohne... Sie hielt jedoch tapfer durch! Begleitet von großen Mammutwolken versuchen wir erneut, uns fotogen vor die Zelle zu positionieren.
Another recording session took place at Sweetwater. In the meantime, a shelf cloud formed (you can see what this is in the following pictures). When the gusts arrived, I was a little afraid for my drone... But it held out bravely! Accompanied by big mammoth clouds, we tried again to position ourselves photogenically in front of the cell.

Ein krönender Abschluss dieses Tages mit Sonnenuntergang und Blitz - was will man mehr? Das Gewitter hat alle Erwartungen übertroffen. Der Start war schwierig, welche Zelle würde das Rennen machen? Am Ende gab es den alleinigen Chef auf dem Platz, den wir lange verfolgen konnten und zahlreiche Bilder schießen und Videos drehen konnten. Es müssen nicht immer die groß angekündigten Ereignisse sein, die ein schönes Chasing ermöglichen!
A crowning finale to this day with sunset and lightning - what more could you want? The thunderstorm exceeded all expectations. The start was difficult, which cell would win the race? In the end, there was the sole boss in the square, which we were able to follow for a long time and take numerous pictures and videos. It doesn't always have to be the big announced events that make for great chasing!
Viele Bilder von diesem Tag... Der Tag war der Beweis dafür, dass es nicht immer ein Tornado sein muss, um ein erfolgreiches Chasing zu haben!
